Abstract

1,056,085. Tunnel kilns. S.I.T.I. Feb. 17, 1965 [July 29, 1964], No. 6788/65. Addition to 820,220. Heading F4B. A continuous tunnel kiln for firing ceramics as disclosed in the parent Specification is modified in that the rollers are constructed such that the roller wall thickness is between <SP>1</SP>/ 10 th and 1/ 15 th of the roller outside diameter so that special roller cooling means are not necessary. The rollers 5 are rotatably mounted in grooves 4 in the sole 3 of the kiln with a slight lateral play and project above the level of portions 3<SP>1</SP> enough to drive the charge carrying plates. The rollers are spaced apart a distance 7 between roller centres, shorter than the length of the carrying plates. Electric heating elements may be placed in recesses 2, 2<SP>1</SP>.
