Abstract

1,055,945. Retractive switches. UNITED CARR Inc. March 25, 1964 [April 2, 1963], No. 12645/64. Heading H2B. [Also in Division E2] A fastener device for attaching an article to an apertured support comprises a base 36 having a pair of legs 44 projecting from one face in opposed substantially parallel spaced relation the inner opposed faces of the legs being formed with lugs for engaging a shoulder on the article when positioned between the legs and each leg having a resilient extension 42 integrally connected to the end of the leg remote from the base the free end of the extension being directed towards the base and terminating in spaced relation thereto, the outer face of each extension being formed with a series of notches for engagement with an edge of the aperture in the support when the fastener device is inserted therein. As shown, the fastener device is part of a switch which has a spring-loaded plunger 10 slidable in a housing 12, two fixed contacts 20 being positioned in grooves in the housing and each having a terminal portion projecting from the base of the housing and the plunger carrying a movable contact 18 which when the plunger is in its raised position makes contact with terminal end portions 48 of the fixed contacts 20. The fastener device holds the plunger in the housing and the switch to a panel 64. The shoulder engaged by the lugs is defined by a collar element 60 consisting of two extensions formed on opposite sides of the external surface of the housing 12. The extensions 42 of the legs engage the periphery of the aperture in the panel 64 and in conjunction with the base 36 of the fastener device hold the switch to the panel. The switch contacts can be modified to give a switch which is normally " off " instead of " on " as shown.
