Abstract

1,055,824. Removing hides from carcases. UNIVERSAL FLAYMASTER EQUIPMENT CO. Ltd. Aug. 4, 1965 [May 4, 1964], No. 18376/64. Heading A2U. A device for removing hides from carcases comprises two beams 9 pivotally supported on base 6 and rollers 14, 24 (24, Fig. 3, not shown) mounted on carriages 16 movable along beams 9. The pivotal movement of beams 9 and the upward and downward movement of carriages 16 are controlled respectively by ram 11 and rams 17A (Fig. 2, not shown) of hydraulic cylinders. The cylinders are operated by a hydraulic pump and the valves for controlling the pump are opened and closed by electrical means under the control of a microswitch. Steam jets may be present for sterilizing the rollers. The device may be moved on rails 23 to skin a carcase moving on rail 3. In use, the forelegs are anchored to member 5 on base 6, the preflayed skin of the foreshanks and neck is passed under roller 24 (not shown), over roller 14 and secured to base 6 or the base of beams 9, and the rollers 14, 24 are moved along beams 9 to skin the carcase.
