Abstract

A textile lubricant composition comprises a homogeneous water suspension of an oxidized Fischer-Tropsch wax having a chain length of from 40 to 55 carbon atoms, a melting point from 200 DEG to 220 DEG F., an acid value, as defined, from 10 to 35 and a penetration, as defined, from 1 to 6, emulsified by (a) an emulsifying agent which is a cationic quaternary ammonium compound of the general formula <FORM:1055344/C4-C5/1> in which R1 is an alkyl group of 14 to 20 carbon atoms; R2 is an alkyl group of from 1 to 3 carbon atoms or a phenyl group (which may be substituted with a C1-C3 alkyl group) or a naphthyl group; the groups R3, which may be the same or different, are alkylene groups of 2 to 4 carbon atoms; x is from 1 to 6 and x + y is from 1 to 7; and Z- is an anion; or by (b) a mixture of said cationic quaternary ammonium compound and a nonionic emulsifying agent whose molecule contains at least 8 ethylene oxide (C2H4O) units, the weight ratio of nonionic emulsifying agent to cationic quaternary ammonium compound being not in excess of 7 : 3; the weight ratio of oxidized FischerTropsch wax to total emulsifying agent being from 10 : 1 to 3 : 7.ALSO:An emulsion of an oxidized Fischer-Tropsch wax having a chain length of from 40 to 55 carbon atoms, a melting point from 200 DEG F. to 220 DEG F., and specified acid value and penetration, comprises either (a) an emulsifying agent which is a cationic quaternary ammonium compound of the general formula:- <FORM:1055344/B1-B2/1> in which R1 is an alkyl group of 14 to 20 carbon atoms; R2 is an alkyl group of from 1 to 3 carbon atoms or a phenyl group (which may be substituted with a C1 - C3 alkyl group) or a naphthyl group; the groups R3, which may be the same or different, are alkylene groups of 2 to 4 carbon atoms; x is from 1 to 6 and x + y is from 1 to 7; and Z- is an anion; or (b) a mixture of said cationic quaternary ammonium compond and a nonionic emulsifying agent whose molecule contains at least 8 ethylene oxide (C2H40) units, the weight ratio of nonionic emulsifying agent to cationic quaternary ammonium compound being not in excess of 7:3: the weight ratio of oxidized Fischer-Tropsch wax to total emulsifying agent being from 10:1 to 3:7.
