An electrically-conductive wire coated with magnetic storage material which is used, for example, in a woven matrix store, has two or more concentric thin film coatings each having a different coercive force. The wire may be continuously coated or may have coatings at only those regions where row and column conductors coincide in a woven matrix. Optionally, insulating layers may be provided between the conductor and the inner film and between the two films. In operation, both thin films at a storage location are switched by the coincident application of a word write pulse and a digit pulse, whereas only the film with the lower coercive force is switched by a read pulse. Repeated read-out is therefore possible as the unswitched film restores the switched film to its initial state.
