Abstract

1,054,302. Securing knobs on shafts. MINISTER OF AVIATION. April 29, 1964 [May 2, 1963], No. 17390/63. Heading F2U. A control knob 10 of plastics material is formed with a frusto-conical hole 11 of non- circular cross-section which can be pushed on to the end of a correspondingly shaped shaft or over an attachment 1, Fig. 1 (not shown) mounted on the end of the shaft and having a correspondingly shaped external surface, a lip 12 round the edge of the hole being elastically deformed while the knob is being pushed on to. the shaft and snapping into a groove on the shaft or behind the edge 6 of the attachment to hold the knob in position. A groove 13 facilitates deformation of the lip 12. As shown, the hole 11 is provided with axial ridges 14 which can mate in a selected angular position with axial ridges 5 on the attachment 1. The knob is provided with a tail 15 and a beak 16.
