Abstract
105,425. Moore, R. A. April 26, 1916. Breech actions, sliding breech-block.-Consists in providing a non- rotary bolt with a rotary locking-piece actuated by a handle lever and capable of being retained in one of three positions, in one of which the bolt is locked and the firing-pin operative, whereas in the second the bolt is still locked but the firing- pin is inoperative, and in the third the bolt is unlocked and the locking-piece cannot be rorotated into the locking position until the firing- pin has been re-cocked. In t h e construction shown, the rear edge of the rotary locking- piece 21 is formed with three notches 21<a>, 21<b>, 21<c>, Fig. 6, which are engaged by a nose 18<a>, Fig. 3, on the cocking-piece when the firing-pin is in its forward position. The first notch 21<a>, which is engaged when the bolt lever 22 is in the locking position, is sufficiently deep to enable the firing- pin to be operative, and one side is bevelled so that the firing-pin is cammed back when the locking-piece is turned ; the second notch 21<b> is too shallow to allow the firing-pin to reach the cartridge, and has one side bevelled at a steeper angle than the first notch. The third notch 21<c>, which is also shallow, is not bevelled, so that the locking-piece 21 cannot be turned back into the locking position until the firing-pin has been cocked. The closing-plate 8 at the bottom of the magazine is pivoted at the front on a vertical pivot 9, and at the back is secured by a spring catch 10. The bolt is provided with a sliding ejector 12, Fig. 2, having a projection 12<1> extending into a groove 11 in the side of the bolt.
