Abstract

1,053,788. Carbon monoxide conversion. HEINRICH KOPPERS G.m.b.H. May 5, 1965 [May 27, 1964], No. 18899/65. Heading C1A. [Also in Division C5] Gaseous mixtures containing carbon monoxide and sulphur compounds are treated for the removal or conversion of these compounds by a two-stage process. Firstly, the carbon monoxide is mostly converted to the dioxide by reacting the crude gas with water vapour, also producing hydrogen. Then, the partiallyconverted gas which may be subjected to heat exchange with the original crude gas, is desulphurized at high temperature, and then cooled with water producing water vapour for conversion of some more carbon monoxide to dioxide at low temperature, also giving more hydrogen. This low-temperature conversion acts simultaneously to the desulphurisation. A specific example of crude gas containing hydrogen is given in which the hydrogen content is substantially increased.
