Abstract

A method of printing with a film-forming material such as ink comprises depositing a pattern of ink on a carrying surface, causing or allowing the ink to increase its cohesive integrity while concurrently preserving a degree of tack on the exposed surface of the ink pattern, contacting the said tacky surface with a print-receiving surface having a residual surface energy in excess of the residual surface of the exposed surface of the inked pattern, and thereafter separating the carrying surface from the receiving surface whereby the ink pattern is substantially completely transferred to the receiving surface. Air drying or heating may be used, depending upon the composition of the ink, to increase the cohesive forces and produce the required degree of phase change. Ink compositions.-In one example a suitable ink composition consists of 10-20 parts by weight of cellulose acetate, 60-80 parts by weight of gamma butyrolactone, and 10-15 parts by weight of carbon black. In a further example a composition consists of ..Per cent .Vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate.(by weight) .Copolymer .. .. .. ...40-45 .Plasticizer .. .. .. ...40-45 .Stabilizer (barium type) .. ...1-2 .Stabilizer (cadmium type) .. ...1-2 .Titanium dioxide .. .. ...10-20
