Abstract
1,053,204. Sulphonamides. MERCK & CO. Inc. Oct. 18, 1963 [Oct. 20, 1962; Dec. 21, 1962; Feb. 26, 1963], Nos. 39773/62, 48278/62 and 7571/63. Heading C2C. The invention comprises sulphonamides of the formula wherein X is a halogen atom or an alkyl or halogen-substituted alkyl radical e.g. Cl, Br, CF 3 , R 1 is hydrogen or an alkyl or alkylol radical and R 2 is an alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkylol alkylcarbonyl, alkylsulphonyl, aralkylsulphonyl arylsulphonyl or dialkylaminoalkyl radical or R 1 and R 2 together with the nitrogen form a heterocyclic ring which may bear substituents and may also contain other hetero atoms; and in the case of basic compounds, the salts thereof. It comprises also the preparation of these compounds by reacting the corresponding sulphonyl chloride with an organic base of the formula R 1 .NH.R 2 , and if Y is a nitro group, reducing the product, if desired, e.g. with iron and water, iron and hydrochloric acid or stannous chloride and hydrochloric acid, to give the corresponding amino compound. Suitably NR 1 R 2 is a methylsulphonamido, diethylamino, 4 - methylpiperazino, cyclopropylamino, heptamethyleneimino, diethylaminoethylamino, or acetamido group. In the Provisional Specifications Y may also be an acylamino, alkylideneamino, guanidino, carbamido or substituted guanidino or carbamido radical, R, may also be alkylene and R 2 may also be hydrogen.
