Abstract

1,053,102. Breathing apparatus. O. H. DRAGER, [trading as DRAGERWERK, HEINR. & BERNH. DRAGERI. Aug. 4, 1964 [July 18, 1963], No. 30619/64. Heading A5T. A respiratory apparatus for protecting a user against an injurious substance (e.g. carbon monoxide), comprises a mouthpiece or mask 4, a filter housing 1 containing a material which brings about the removal of the injurious substance from the inhalation gas by means of an exothermic chemical process (e.g. a catalyst for the oxidation of carbon monoxide), and thermally conductive wall means separating the inhalation duct from the exhalation duct such that the exhalation gas cools the inhalation gas. In one embodiment a metal collapsible bellows exhalation hose 13 extends through a similar inhalation hose 2. In another embodiment the apparatus comprises a plurality of spaced apart inhalation tubes, the exhalation ducts being formed by the spaces between the inhalation ducts. The apparatus may comprise exhalation valve 7.
