[Also in Division D1] The invention comprises 1:2 metal : dye chromium or cobalt complexes of monoazo dyes of the formula in which R is the residue of a 1-hydroxynaphthalene 3-sulphonic acid bound to the azo group in a position vicinal to the hydroxyl group and which may contain a further SO 3 H group and X is the residue of a hydroxyalkylamine containing 2 or 3 carbon atoms and is bound to the triazine ring through the nitrogen atom. Preferably, the residue R is bound to the -NH- bridge in the 8 position. They may be prepared by (1) metallizing the metalfree dyestuffs, (2) by reacting the appropriate mono-halotriazine compound with a hydroxyalkylamine or (3) reacting a 2: 4: 6 triazine of the formula ic which X has the above meaning with a 1: 2 chromium or cobalt complex of a mono-azo dye of the general formula in which A is a residue of a 1 - hydroxynaphthalene 3-sulphonic acid bound to the azo group in the 2-position and which contains an amino group preferably in the 8 position and may be further substituted by an SO 3 H group. Specified metallizing agents used are chromium sulphate, cobalt acetate, cobalt sulphate and chromium complexes of salicylic acid, lactic acid and tartaric acid. The preparation of the monoazo dyes used in (2) above is also described.
