Abstract

105,282. Disdier, E. June 9, 1916. Sugar preparations.-A material for use in making syrups, honey substitutes, &c., is prepared by drying pressed grapes. remaining after the manufacture of wine. The pressed grapes are treated, to separate the stalks, in a machine comprising a fixed perforated cylinder containing blades or pallets arranged in the form of a screw on a central rotary shaft. The pulp and skins, which pass through the perforations, are dried by hot air or combustion gases, or by heat of the sun. The drying apparatus described in Specification 25251/11, [Class 34 (ii), Drying systems &c.], may be used. The dried pulp is sieved to separate the stones or seeds. Musts are prepared by macerating the dried pulp in a solution of cane sugar, glucose, levulose, maltose, or invert sugar, and by concentration, syrups, and honey substitutes are formed.
