[Also in Division G3] A programme timer for washing machines comprises a bank of cams 11, Figs. 1 to 5 (not shown) actuating switches 45 to control the machine operations and determine the main intervals in a cycle. A pair of sub-interval cams 40, 41 are simultaneously advanced one revolution during each main interval. Cam 41 actuates one or more switches in circuit with the switches 45 to vary the interval. Cam 40 actuates an inversor switch 50 for changing the direction of rotation of a motor driving the wash basket, in accordance with a conventional washing sequence, or this motor may rotate continuously in one direction as for a spin drying operation. Switch 50, which is further disclosed in Specification 1,052,662, comprises fixed contacts 51 on a support 52, and spring- mounted movable contacts on a movable bar 54. The arrangement forms a first set of switches 55 which close sequentially on movement of the bar 54 in one direction, and a second set 56 which operates in inverse manner. Bar 64 is moved by a lever 60 carrying a pin 62 which may enter a cam track 65 in cam 40. A second lever 66 fast with lever 60 has a follower 67 co-operating with stops 68 on one of the main cams 11. Thus if follower 67 engages one of the stops 68 as pin 62 approaches track 65, the pin avoids the track and follows the outer cam periphery. Bar 54 is held to the left (Fig. 4) to maintain the motor rotating in one direction. When pin 62 is permitted to enter the track 65, the switch is operated in accordance with the conventional washing sequence.
