Abstract
1,052,584. Cyclohexenes. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. June 10, 1965 [June 12, 1964 (2)], No. 24587/65. Heading C5E. Cyclohexenes are obtained from benzene or an alkyl or cycloalkyl derivative by reaction in the liquid phase at 30-180‹ C. with sodium, potassium, rubidium or caesium and a compound of the formula RNH 2 in which R is hydrogen or alkyl and recovering the alkali metal from the amide formed. The alkali metal is preferably recovered by heating with hydrogen to 375-800‹ C., the hydrogen pressure or partial pressure being 10-150% of the dissociation pressure of the amide at the temperature used. Ammonia is the preferred amide used in a molar ratio to hydrocarbon of 3-100: 1. The alkali metal is added in amounts of 1-10 atoms per molecule of hydrocarbon. Pressures of 2-300 atmospheres, e.g. autogenous pressure, are used to maintain the liquid phase.
