Abstract
105,236. Jacobus, M. R. March 20, 1916, [Convention date]. Feeding-appliances for animals.-A poultryfeeder in which the food receptacle 12 is supplied by a hopper 10 has hinged co the front of the receptacle 12 a waste trough 14 adapted to receive the food thrown or dropped by the birds. Access to the contents of this trough is prevented by a rod 15 or a grating. When sufficient food has accumulated in the trough 14, it may be tipped into the main receptacle by swinging the trough on its hinges to the position shown in dotted line. In this position, the trough closes the feeder and prevents the access of vermin to the food. A grating 25, carried by a bar 26 pivoted in the sides of the feeder, is provided in front of the feeder and is held against the trough 14 in both its extended and closed positions by a spring 29. In a modification, the trough 14 is separated from the main receptacle by a hinged vertical partition.
