Abstract

1,052,323. Fibres made from polymer blends, polyamide compositions. KURASHIKI RAYON KABUSHIKI KAISHA. April 26, 1965 [June 11, 1964], No. 17428/65. Headings C3G, C3P and C3R. Fibres are made by melt spinning a blend of a polyamide, a styrene polymer and a graft polymer of polyamide and polystyrene. Polyamides specified include nylon-6, nylon-66, copolyamides and polyesteramides. Styrene polymers specified are polystyrene and copolymers of at least 60% styrene with vinyl chloride, acrylonitrile, ethylene, propylene and butadiene. The graft polymers may be made either by polymerizing styrene in the presence of a polyamide, preferably one which has been pre-irradiated with gamma rays, or by polymerizing a lactam, e.g. caprolactam, in the presence of a styrene-acrylic acid copolymer. The amount of grafted material in the polymer may be 30-120%. 0À1-10% of the polymer may be used.
