Abstract
1,052,196. Cooling liquids. E. E. COOKE. Oct. 16, 1964 [Aug. 26, 1963], No. 33752/63. Heading F4H. [Also in Division F1] In a container, e.g. for milk, having a light-gauge inner vessel 1, e.g. of stainless steel, and an inexpensive heavy gauge outer vessel 2, e.g. of mild steel, arranged to form a chamber 5, the outer vessel relieves the inner vessel of atmospheric pressure exerted thereon when a vacuum is created in the inner vessel. Chamber 5 is filled with a porous insulating material 6 and a refrigerated coil 21 may contact the surface of inner vessel 1. An exhauster tube 7 and liquid inlet tube 11 pass through rubber seal caps 8, 12. A drain plug 15 is maintained seated in well 14 by the vacuum differential across a metal disc 19 which is secured to the interconnecting rod 16. In a modification material 6 is omitted and an evaporator coil in chamber 5 cools a medium which is continuously aerated to assist cooling, the outer vessel having a covering of porous insulating material enclosed in a light-gauge metal sheath. Either container may also have inspection ports 40, 44, a dipstick 41, thermometer 42 and an agitator assembly 43.
