Abstract
1,052,029. Oxidizing a silicon surface. ARTHUR D. LITTLE Inc. Sept. 16, 1963 [Sept. 20, 1962; April 12, 1963], No. 36315/63. Heading C1A. [Also in Divisions C7 and H1] A resistive barrier film of silicon oxides is formed by producing a priming barrier film on a body of silicon by reacting oxygen therewith, exposing the priming film to negatively charged ions of oxygen, and during exposure to said oxygen providing an electric potential across the film to produce a thicker film. The electric potential may be provided either by an electrode 28 (Fig. 1) or merely by the presence of the negative ions (see Fig. 4, not shown).
