In a louvre blind with the axis of the louvres 39 arranged vertically and adapted to traverse a window &c. horizontally each louvre is supported on a carriage 31 slidably arranged in a continuous slot of a rigid aluminium channel 21, supported by locking spring 37 in a bracket 32 secured to the window structure, and the channel 21 comprises a plurality of mutually spaced apertures 38 each of which accommodates an axle 42 of a gear 41 with teeth 45, and with depending parallel ears 53 which couple with rectangular section members 57 of the carriage 31 so as to be slidable but not rotatable relative to the gear which meshes with a rack 46-47 common to all carriages, so that longitudinal movement of the rack rotates all the louvres when in the expanded condition of the blind only. The carriages are collapsed by moving to one end of the blind by means of a slide which is driven by an apertured band 82 passing around end wheels, one of which is toothed and rotated by a control rod, the slide being secured to the band 82 and has a cam surface which cooperates with the ears 53 on the first or farthest movable of the carriages to rotate the ears into the direction of the longitudinal direction of the channel 21 and this rotation rotates all the carriages so that they can all pass through between the ears 53 of all the gears 42 to collapse the blind. The carriages are interconnected and connected to the slide by an unstretchable tape 95 which on expanding of the blind positions the carriages exactly in position under the respective gears 42. A similar arrangement may be provided at the bottom of the blind and all relatively movable parts including gears 42 which are pressed into their bearings are made of P.V.C. or are of metal covered by P.V.C.
