In high-speed mixing-apparatus wherein the fork to a stirrer 11 is transmitted by an hydraulic motor 5 supplied with fluid by a motor-driven variablevolume pump in a reservoir 7, a safety valve 14 (Fig. 2, not shown) is provided in the direct line from the pump to the motor 5 whereby control of tongue can be obtained and the valve can open when the hydraulic pressure reaches a predetermined maximum. A head 4 on a pillar 1 rotatable relative to the base 2 is vertically movable by a hydraulic ram 15. Cams 20, 21 are provided on the head for cutting-out the motor 5 when the head is raised.
