Abstract

1,051,483. Vibratory mechanisms. LOSENHAUSENWERK DUSSELDORFER MASCHINENBAU A.G. March 24, 1964 [March 30, 1963; June 12, 1963], No. 12294/64. Heading F2X. A vibrator comprises an unbalance mass mounted with axial symmetry on a hollow shaft through which extends a shaft carrying an unbalance mass on each end, the two shafts being geared together for opposite rotation. In Fig. 1, the hollow shaft 4, carrying unbalance masses 6, 6a, at its ends and the rotor 3 of a driving motor on its middle portion, is connected through a ring gear 5a and pinions 12, 13, 11 to the inner shaft 7, carrying unbalance masses 8, 8a at its ends, so that the two shafts rotate at equal speeds but in opposite senses. The shaft 7 also carries a cooling fan 15 for the motor. To alter the phase relation between the shafts 4, 7, and hence the direction of the vibrations, the bearing plate carrying the pinions 12, 13 may be rotated in the casing 1. In Fig. 2. an external drive is applied to the vibrator through a pinion or pulley 28 on an inner shaft 22 which carries unbalance masses 29, 30. An unbalance mass 35 is fixed on the centre portion of a hollow shaft 23 surrounding the middle portion of the shaft 22. Idler pinions 39, 40, meshing respectively with a ring gear 37 on the hollow shaft 23 and with a gear 38 on the shaft 22, are carried in a cage comprising plates 43, 44 linked by a bridge member and rotatably mounted on the shaft 22. To alter the phase relation between the shafts 22, 23, the cage is turned by a worm 48, having a hand wheel 49, meshing with a worm-wheel formed on the plate 44. In either embodiment, more than one pair of pinions 12, 13 or 39, 40 may be used, and the gearing connecting the two shafts may be duplicated by adding a second train at the free end of the hollow shaft.
