[Also in Division D1] Chlorosulphonated ethylene-propylene copolymer rubbers are prepared by irradiating an unsubstituted ethylene-propylene copolymer in the presence of sulphur dioxide and chlorine using a mercury vapour lamp or by heating the unsubstituted copolymer with sulphuryl chloride. The ethylene-propylene copolymer may be a terpolymer containing a non-conjugated diene, e.g. dicyclopentadiene, 1,2,4-trivinylcyclohexane or 1,5-cyclo-octadiene, in a molar proportion of not more than 10%. The chlorosulphonated ethylene-propylene copolymer rubber may be used as a volution in carbon tetrachloride, perchloroethylene, chloroform, pentane, hexane, cyclohexane, benzene or toluene for the treatment of wool.
