Abstract

105,117. Thomson, W. T., and MacDonald, W. B. April 1, 1916. Sewing-machines; starting and stopping gear.-Transmission gear for sewing and like machines, of the type having a piston clutch and a brake member so arranged that the clutch and brake members are simultaneously operated, is characterized by a clutchoperating wedge fork g, Fig. 1, made with an extension g<2> carrying the brake o. The inclined face of the wedge, which is operated by a spring- controlled treadle-actuated lever h, cooperates with the end of a bracket f, through which the shaft passes to move the pulley b against the driving-disk d. The mechanism may be duplicated, as shown, for two machines operated from the same shaft. The driving-disks d may be provided with guards n supported by a bracket m secured to the bracket f.
