Abstract

1,051,032. Aerating liquids. MANNESMANN A.G. March 12, 1963 [March, 12, 1962; Oct. 25, 1962], No. 9774/63. Heading B1C. [Also in Divisions B5 and C3]. A multilayer "filter" is produced by mixing a synthetic thermoplastic with a soluble salt, extruding this mixture on to the outside of a perforated metal tube and leaching out the salt. The thermoplastic may be polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene or polystyrene and may contain lubricants, e.g. lubricating wax, stabilizers, e.g. lead stearate and copper or mercury salts as algae inhibitors. The soluble salt may be Na Cl in the form of spherical grains of size 0.06-5 mm. 30-70% may be used. The pores on the outer surface of the product, which may be roughened, may be larger than those inside. The "filter" may be used to aerate sewage and other liquids.
