Abstract
1,050,896. Rotary pipe Joint; mechanical seals. FILTON Ltd. March 31, 1964, No. 13270/64. Headings F2B and F2G. A rotary pipe joint comprises relatively rotatable inner 1 and outer 2 members and co-operating seal rings 3, 4 adapted to make rotary sliding sealing contact with one another, one of the said rings 3 being carried by said inner member and the other ring 4 being an axially floating ring which is urged against the first ring by means of a circumferential set of leaf springs 5 the outer ends of which are fixed between two outer rings 6, 7 which also secure between them a flexible sealing diaphragm 8 which is also sealed to the floating ring, the outer rings 6, 7 being secured to the outer member by a withdrawable tubular clamping element 17 and secured to the outer member 2 by hinged bolts carried by either the element or the outer member which engage in a peripheral recess in the other. A bearing 12 is held between a flange 11 on the outer member and a circlip 14 on the inner member, and is spaced by ring 14 from the outer ring 6. The outer ring 7 may be retained in the outer member 2 by a retainer ring 16 and the ring 4 may be held stationary with respect to ring 6 by means of torque pins 26 engaging grooves 27. The bearing may be other than ball or roller.
