Abstract

1,050,545. Drying paper webs. HUYCK CORPORATION. Feb. 28, 1964 [March 14, 1963], No. 8350/64. Heading F4G. [Also in Divisions D1 and D2] A wet press in a paper or like machine comprises a simplex felt and a duplex felt, the duplex felt running inside the simplex felt, the duplex felt being formed of a felted first layer which has a relatively low void volume and is compressible and a second layer having a relatively high void volume and being less felted and less compressible than the first layer, the second layer of the duplex felt running in contact with the simplex felt, the void volume of the first and second layers being high or low relative to each other. The duplex felt and wet press section are generally similar to those described in Specification 1,002,095. The duplex and simplex felts may be made water receptive by means of an anionic exchange resin containing polyoxyethyl chains and ionic groups in the form of soluble polymers together with a cross-linking agent or the simplex felt water repellant by means of a fluorocarbon having the formula C 8 F 17 , an organo-polysiloxane containing a zirconium or tin salt, stearamido-methylpyridinium chloride, a mixture of a zirconium salt such as zirconium stearate and a paraffin wax, or certain thermosetting resins with suitable catalysts.
