Abstract

1,050,344. Rear view mirrors; anti-dazzle devices. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. Oct. 7, 1963 [Oct. 16, 1962], No. 39071/62. Heading B7J. [Also in Division G1] To prevent the driver being dazzled by the lights of a following vehicle the internal driving mirror of a road vehicle is provided with photoelectric means controlling a tilting solenoid. The mirror 13 is carried by a plate 14 hinged at 12 to a bracket 11 in the main easing. Lugs 15 extending from plate 14 limit movement. The photo-cell 29 is mounted behind the mirror on a printed circuit-board and detects the lights on following vehicles through an unsilvered area of the mirror. The cell signals are applied to a trigger circuit 51, 54 controlling solenoid 17. When the light intensity exceeds a certain value the solenoid is energized to draw down plunger 20 so that pins 24 on it press lever 23 on plate 14 down to tilt the mirror. The circuit is so arranged that the solenoid does not release until the illumination drops below a lower level. The mirror assembly is mounted by bolt 19 which also serves as one electrical connection.
