Abstract

1,049,548. Coaxial cables. SIEMENS-SCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. July 2, 1965 [Aug. 5, 1964], No. 28234/65. Heading H1A. Discs of thermoplastic material are formed on copper wires 1 intended for use as the inner conductors of coaxial cables by an injectionmoulding machine 12, in which they are held stationary during moulding by clamps 14. The intermittent action with which they are pulled through the machine by a reciprocating gripper 13 is reconciled with even rotation of the supply reels 2 by a slack storage unit 5 between the reels and the moulding machine. For each conductor 1 the unit has a driving wheel 7, a fixed roller 8 and a movable roller 9, which presses on the wire and deflects it by an amount which varies according to its vertical position. The gripper is driven by an eccentric 17, so that it exerts a pull which varies in amplitude sinusoidally, and exact control of its stroke may be obtained by drawing it into its extreme positions by electromagnets (not shown). A second slack storage unit may be incorporated between the moulding machine and the take-up reels. The drive to wheels 7 may be interrupted if the rollers 9 fall below a limiting position.
