Abstract

1,049,382. Aircraft instruments. LITTON SYSTEMS Inc. April 9, 1963 [April 10, 1962], No. 14176/63. Heading B7W. [Also in Divisions H3 and H4] In a terrain clearance airborne radar system for giving visual information and instructions (see Divisions H3 and H4) the pilot's indicator 500 comprises a motorized brake assembly 502, Fig. 14 (not shown) and an electromagnetic reed assembly 504, Fig. 15 (not shown) providing a display indicative of " safeness " of all headings in the Œ90 degrees sector about the aircraft's heading. Surface plate 499 is black with windows 501, 503; display panel 505, behind window 503, has a white background. The rotation of shaft 512 of assembly 502 is controlled by cam-switches, Fig. 16 (not shown). Balanced reeds, e.g. 524 ... 530 are substantially withdrawn from view when indicating collision danger. Each reed, Fig. 15 (not shown), is mounted on an arm to pivot about a point 531 and is rocked under the control of electromagnets 534, 535 associated with all the reeds and driven by a servomotor rotating in synchronism with the radar aerial, Fig. 16 (not shown). Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 959,562.
