Abstract
7 - Sulphamoyl - 3,4 - dihydro - 1,2,4 -benzothiadizine-1,1-dioxides of the formula <FORM:1049322/C2/1> in which R is H, CH3, C2H5, halogen or a haloalkyl group, R1 and R4 are each H or C1- 3 alkyl and R2 and R3 are each H or a C1- 4 alkyl, substituted or unsubstituted aryl or a cycloalkyl group, are prepared by heating an appropriate 2,4-disulphamoyl aniline, in water or aqueous alcohol at the boiling-point of the solvent, in the presence of ammonia or a substance such as ammonium carbonate which releases ammonia, with an aldehyde of the formula R2(R3)CH.CHO. Suitably, R is Cl, Br, F or CF3 and one of R2 and R3 is an alkyl, phenylalkyl, cyclopentyl or cyclohexyl group. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 861,367, 863,474 876,755, 877,552 and 885,078.
