Abstract

1,048,544. Pneumatic conveyers. INDUSTRIAL HEAT EXCHANGERS Ltd. Aug. 17, 1965 [Aug. 21, 1964], No. 34215/64. Heading B8A. [Also in Division F4] Apparatus for cooling or dehydrating materials while fluidized especially food products, e.g. beans, peas, grain and meat and fish products comprises a cylindrical casing 2, a coaxial inner cylinder 14 in which is mounted an axialflow fan 10, upper and lower covers 4, 5 and a fluidized bed support 19 extending completely around the annulus with inlet and outlet means for the material being treated. The fluidized bed support has concentric partitions 20 and is inclined from the inlet to the outlet. Finned cooling coils 23 are located beneath the bed support and further cooling coils 30 beneath the fan, the coils being of semicircular form extending between headers. The fan 10 blows air downwardly over the cooling coils 30 and upwardly in the annular space 18 through a demister pad 29, over the cooling coils 23 and through the bed support 19 to fluidize and treat the material on the bed and cause it to pass from the inlet to the outlet. The coils 30 are defrosted by antifreeze solution supplied by a ring main 33, the solution passing to a reservoir 35 with outlet pipe 36. The fan 10 is of variable pitch. A number of independent refrigerator coils may be spaced around the air passage 18 and supplied with refrigerant by ring mains.
