Abstract

1,048,300. Machine tool details. DEREFA ETABLISSEMENT POUR LE DEVELOPPEMENT, RECHERCHES ET FABRICATIONS INDUSTRIELLES. May 6, 1965 [May 6, 1964; Jan. 22, 1965], No. 19225/65. Heading B3B. [Also in Division F2] In an arrangement for lubricating the screw and rack of machine tools, pressurized lubricant is supplied to the flanks of the thread of the screw through passages therein; however, only the flanks of the thread of the screw which are in engagement with the rack are supplied with lubricant and, according to the direction of axial loading, only the flanks of the thread which oppose said axial loading are supplied with pressurized lubricant. A screw 1, Figs. 1 and 3 (not shown), is in engagement with a rack 2 and has radial passages 62a, 61a and 62b, 61b connecting respectively with axial passages 57a and 57b which lead to passages 53a and 53b each individual passage of which opens out on a right or left-hand flank of the thread of the screw 1. Pressurized lubricant is supplied through pipe 74, connection 73, pipe 72, connection 71 and through a passage 88 in member 83 to a distributer 65a mounted therein. The distributer 65a has a radial passage 87, an interconnecting axial passage 67 and radial passages 68, 69 which, according to the axial position of the distributer, connect with either passages 62a or 62b. The distributer 65a is actuated, according to the direction of rotation of the screw, by supplying hydraulic pressure to either side of a piston 91, which is integral with the distributer 65a and is mounted in a bore 92 of the member 83. In use, according to the position of an electrically operated valve 98, pressurized fluid passes through either conduits 96 or 97 to actuate the piston 91 and consequently position the distributer 65a so as to supply either the left or right hand flanks of the thread of the screw with pressurized lubricant so as to oppose axial thrust applied thereto. A small quantity of pressurized lubricant is allowed to escape to the flanks of the thread not opposing the axial load.
