Abstract

1,048,163. Endless conveyers. DE FRANCISCI MACHINE CORPORATION. Jan. 27, 1965 [Jan. 31, 1964], No. 3560/65. Heading B8A. [Also in Divisions A2 and F4] In apparatus for drying spaghetti extruded from a conventional press 10, Fig. 1, the spaghetti passes on rack rods 20 carried by conveyers through a drying apparatus comprising a preliminary drier 11 through which the spaghetti is conveyed on the rods in single tier flow and from which it is conveyed by an input elevator and transfer means 12 into a finishing drier 13 wherein it passes in a multi-tiered single pass on to an accumulator 14 for temporary storage of the dried spaghetti and from thence by a discharge elevator and transfer means 15 to a stripper 16. The empty rods are returned on an automatic mechanism 17 to the press 10. The transfer means 12, Fig. 3, comprises a pair of vertically mounted endless conveyers 22 intermittently driven through a sprocket 23 by a motor 31 and having thereon spaced rack rod support lugs 27A ... 27D, 28A ... 28D. Power is supplied and the conveyers 22 move when switches 37 in the power circuit to the motor having triggers 38 adjacent the chains 22 and chains 21 in the preliminary drier 11 are actuated by the lead rod on the chain 21, and continues until the next lug on the conveyers 22 engages a trigger 40 of a switch 41 in the motor circuit. The motor restarts when the next rack rod 20 reaches the correct transfer position adjacent the chains 22. This action continues until all the lugs are loaded and the lugs 27A ... 27D are positioned adjacent lift-off arms 42A ... 42D, pivotally mounted on a linkage arm 45. The arms 42A ... 42D are normally raised free of the descending rods 20 on a chain 21 but a cam 50 on a sprocket 51 is driven via sprockets and chains 52-54 travels to the shown positions when all the lugs are loaded so that a cam follower 48 reaches the recessed position of the cam and allows arm 45 to drop and the arms 42A ... 42D to intercept the rods 20 which roll on to the conveyer chains 55A ... 55D in the finishing drier 13. A discharge elevator 15 of substantially similar form is described with reference to Fig. 6 (not shown).
