Abstract

1,047,984. Bulldozer. M-R-S MANUFACTURING CO. Jan. 3, 1964 [Jan. 16, 1963; June 27, 1963], No. 410/64. Heading E1F. A bulldozer blade 34 is adjustable as regards back-and-fore pitch, side-to-side tilt, and optionally angle to direction of travel of its tractor. Lower push frame 46 is pivoted at its rear to tractor frame 52 and its front corners carry a socket (62) and lug (56) (Figs. 6, 9, not shown). Socket (62) receives a ball (66) on the rear of blade 34, while lug (56) is pivoted to a clevis (88) which slides up and down a curved channel in bracket 76. Hydraulic cylinder 112 is attached to bracket 120 on blade 34 and its rod 110 to clevis (88), so that cylinder 112 tilts blade 34 sideways about a horizontal axis through universal joint (62), 66). A cylinder and piston 134, engaging brackets on the tractor frame and blade 34, varies the back-and-fore tilt of the blade. Fig. 9A illustrates a cylinder (130) within a modified push frame (46a), moving portion (126) connected to clevis (88), to swing the blade about a vertical axis through joint 62, 66. Cylinders 166 serve to lift the blade or push it into the ground, the consequent change in pitch being corrected by adjusting cylinder 134, possibly automatically. The blade carries pivotally mounted shoes 198 vertically adjustable by apertures 214 and pin 216 to vary the depth of cut. Fig. 10 (not shown), illustrates a universal joint (100-110) as used in all the connections of cylinders and pistons described above. Figs. 13-16 (not shown) illustrate a self aligning bearing bushing used as an alternative to ball and socket (62), (66). Both rear and front tractor wheels may be steered, frame 46 being pivoted forward of the front axle.
