Abstract

A process for making a finely divided alloy comprises adding a solution of the salts of two or more different metals to a solution of an alkali metal boro-hydride. The metals are selected from the group consisting of Ru, Rh, Os, Pt, Pd, Ir, Au, Ag, Fe, Co, Ni, Mo, Cr, Mn, W, Ti, Re, Zn, Cu, Cd and V and the solvents used may be water alcohols ketones ethers or glycols. The process may be carried out at a temperature up to the boiling point of the solutions. The product may be used as a catalyst for vapour phase oxidation, dehydrogenation, dehydration, hydrogenation, cracking and isomerization and is especially useful in electrochemical oxidation and reduction reactions. Various platinum group metals are described.
