Valve-discharge water-waste preventers, automatic.-Apparatus for providing hot water in the lavatory of a railway carriage or the like comprises a steam-heated water-heater 4 having a hotwater outlet pipe 13 discharging into the closet pan 14. When the water-level in the waterheater rises above a certain height, a float 9 closes the inlet valve 17 and opens the discharge valve 16. When the closet pan is flushed by opening the valve 28, the water-level in the heater falls, and the valve 16 is closed.
