Cupping.-In a press for drawing blanks, a moving blank-holder travels at slow speed at the beginning and end of its movement to ensure a dwell of the holder during drawing. The tierods of the frame are relieved from longitudinal stress during the drawing operation. The blankholder B is adjustably supported by a cross-head B<1> reciprocated vertically by a shaft I through cranks I<1>, I<2>, links i i<2>, and draw-bars i<3>, i<4>. The shaft is oscillated by an arm J having a slot j in which slides a pin l reciprocated by a rod K connected to a lever L and a slotted slide E, which embraces the crank-shaft and is actuated by a rod H and crank-pin g. When the arm J is in the vertical or horizontal position corresponding to the clamping and raised positions of the holder, dwells occur during 90 degrees of rotation of the shaft. In a modification, the lower part A is movable and the part B stationary.
