Abstract

1,046,877. Pivoting windows; releasable fastenings; pivots. F. TRKMAN. May 25, 1964 [May 25, 1963], No. 21496/64. Headings E1J, E2A and E2F. A window assembly has a sash 2 rotatable about a central vertical axis 4 on the exterior of a fixed frame 1 and a horizontal lifting bar member 6 located in the lower cross rail and operated by lever mechanism 12, Fig. 1 (not shown) is movable vertically to lift a bar 5 to engage a correspondingly shaped groove 27 in the lower rail of the sash, the top of the sash being received in a recess 32 in the upper cross piece 13<SP>1</SP> of the fixed frame to lock the window. The lifting mechanism consists of bell-crank levers 9 in the lower rail 13 of the frame, their upper ends being coupled to the bar member 6 by pin and slot connections 8 in the member 6 to which is secured the bearing 18 while their lower ends are pivoted to a draw rod 11 operated by the handle 12. The lower bearing is conical as shown at 18 Fig. 2, the adjustment pin 23 being spring loaded by shim 21 towards the bearing. An alternative form of lower bearing consists of a cylindrical bearing shaft coupled by square section 39 in pin 38 running in a bushing 36 Fig. 8 secured to the frame 1 and the securing plate 36 of the bushing is separated from the bushing body by cuts 41, 41<SP>1</SP> and the bushing body is radially slotted so that it can be tightened up in a pile-clip manner by a clip and screw device. The sash may be a double sash, in which the two sashes are hinged together and are locked together in their closed positions in the main frame 1 by a hook mechanism operated by lifting and lowering the sash 2. The sub frames of the double sash are held open by a toggle stay.
