Abstract

1,046,669. Electrostatic generators. COSMIC Inc. Dec. 31, 1964, No. 52943/64. Heading H2A. The rotor of a planar-type electrostatic generator comprises a radial series of round conducting rods 16 embedded in an insulating disc 10, the outer ends of the rods being used for commutation. The stator inductor plates 28, on each side of the rotor, are supported by blocks 22, 24 of material whose spacing may be varied to adjust the working air-gap. These blocks are semi-conducting, e.g. of impure glass, in which case the plates are completely embedded (Fig. 5). The rotor rods may project beyond the rotor disc for commutation purposes, or they may be flush or even inset from the disc periphery (Fig. 8). One or both sets of plates may be excited from external sources.
