In a tractor with a U-shaped frame 17 a steering box 5, with an upwardly or downwardly extending rocker shaft 7 perpendicular to the steering box input shaft axis 6, is arranged with the axis 6 extending between the planes defined by the upper and lower limits of the chassis frame. In Fig. 2, a central steering wheel is connected to the steering box by articulated shaft 14 and rocker-arm 8 is connected by tie-rods 9 to both front wheels or by a single tie-rod 9 to one wheel which is connected to the other front wheel by a track rod 12. The axis 6 may be arranged parallel to, perpendiculart to or obliquely of the vehicle longitudinal axis.
