Abstract

1,046,356. Securing reels on hubs. POTTER INSTRUMENT CO. Inc. Oct. 23, 1964 [Nov. 12, 1963], No. 43275/64. Heading F2U. [Also in Division G5] A tape reel receiving hub for the high speed tape feed apparatus of electronic equipment comprises a friction band 14 adapted to drivingly engage the bore of a tape reel (not shown) when expanded radially by supporting segments 21, pivoted at 13<SP>1</SP> to a flange 12 of a drive spindle 10 keyed to a motor shaft 11, which segments are urged outwardly by toggle links 19 on rightward movement (Fig. 4) of an actuating knob 16 to the over-centre position shown. Leftward movement of the knob 16 retracts the segments 21 to release the reel. Each toggle link 19, which comprises two telescopic sections urged apart by Belleville springs 22, is pivoted at 18 to the stem 17 of the knob 16, and at 20 to two of the segments 21. The inward travel of the knob 16 is adjusted by screws 24 engageable against a plastics buffer 23. A single toggle link may be used.
