Abstract

1,045,388. Winding solenoid arrays. NATIONAL CASH REGISTER CO. Aug. 18, 1965 [Sept. 16, 1964], No. 35409/65. Heading B3E. An electric solenoid coil winding machine ineludes a carrier-plate adapted removably to support an array of solenoid form pins arranged in equally spaced columns and rows, means adapted to orbit around a pin to wind each pin in a column in succession with the same conductor and then each pin in a further column, and row and column indexing means suitably to position the successive pins relative to the winding means. An array 26 of form pins 27, Fig. 7 (not shown), is supported on a carrierplate 33 beneath a conductor feed tube head 37 given an orbital movement, to wind wire 31 about a pin 27, by eccentrics on rotated shafts 136 being lifted at the same time by cam-actuated members 147. Two pins 27 in a row are wound simultaneously by two wires 31 from two braked bobbins 156 rotated about vertical axes by a chain 160. At the completion of the first winding operation the plate 33 is moved along guide 34 in a block 44 by pawl- and-rack means 32 to present the next two pins in the two columns beneath the head 37. A follow bar 47 on a cam-actuated bracket 154 is then covered to fold and tuck each wire against a previously wound coil, Fig. 7 (not shown). The head 37 is then lowered and the wires wound on the two pins. When all the pins in a column have been wound, a spring 41 is allowed to slide the plate 33 back along the guides 34 to its initial position. The block 44 is then indexed along guides 45 by pawl-andrack means 43 to present the next two columns of pins for winding by the same wires 31.
