Abstract

1,045,016. Mirrors. A.ELLIOTT. Jan. 12, 1965 [Jan. 24, 1964], No. 3225/64. Heading G2J. [Also in Division H5] A replica mirror is produced by coating a cleaned surface of a negative master 1 with a layer of gold, applying to the gold coating a blank 2 separated therefrom by a coating of resin which is then cured, and removing the gold coated blank from the master 1. The gold film may be subjected to heat treatment prior to application of the resin. When forming a hemi-toroidal replica mirror, the master 1 is formed from a glass rod ground to produce the required curvature over its length. The ends of the rod are supported in coaxial cylinders 3, 4 having an external radius equal to that of the hemi-cylindrical blank 2. The rod 1 and blank 2 can then be mounted coaxially in a vee-block 5. The resin is cast between the gold coated rod 1 and the blank 2 and subsequently cured. Two such replica mirrors may be positioned in a cylindrical tube to form a toroidal mirror for use in radiology.
