Abstract

A curable composition contains (1) an ethylene/alkyl acrylate copolymer containing 6-50% of the alkyl acrylate and (2) an effective amount, e.g. 0.1-8% of a heat-sensitive free-radical-generating curing agent, e.g. dicumyl peroxide. The alkyl acrylate may be methyl or ethyl acrylate. The composition may also contain 0.5-2.0 parts of carbon black per part of copolymer or TiO2, BaSO4 or CaCO3 as filler. The composition may be formed into a shaped product by mixing the copolymer at a heat plastifying temperature with the curing agent and carbon black, below the decomposition temperature of the curing agent, and then curing the shaped composition by heating. The curing agent may also be 2,5 - dimethyl - 2,5 - di - (t. - butyl - peroxy)-(-hexane or -hexyne-3).
