Abstract

1,044,071. Advancing mine roof supports. GULLICK Ltd. Jan. 11, 1965 [Jan. 21, 1964], No. 2682/64. Heading E1E. In combining two self-advancing mine roof supports 10, 11 they are tied together by a substantially inextensible flexible chain 18, which, when the support 11 is advanced, acts, with its attachment to a conveyer at 17 to prevent or correct any down-seam movement of the support 11, the supports 10, 11 having a co-operating inclined plane 21 or cam and follower, which, when the support 10 is advanced, acts, with its attachment to the conveyer at 17 to prevent or correct any downseam movement of the support 10. Each support 10, 11 has a pressure-fluid ram to advance it, the piston 16 or cylinder of which is attached directly to the conveyer or through an extension member 16b connected thereto, at one or both ends of which is a hinged or loose connection. The chain 18 connects the two rear support units 12, on which is the inclined plane or cam and follower. The inclined plane 21 or cam has a "flat" on which the follower rests when the supports 10, 11 are roof-supporting. The chain 18 is attached to the supports 10, 11 in the relation shown.
