104,388. Brouckere, L. G. C. L. de. March 2, 1916. Posts.-Relates to collapsible or telescopic masts, such as are used in wireless telegraphy, observation towers or plyons. Fig. 1 shows the sections formed triangular in section and of braced lattice girders. Each section, except the top one, is provided on each side with a hinged strut 1<a> consisting of bars t joined together at their outer ends, and all the struts in the same vertical plane are united together at their extremities, to the top of the uppermost section, and to the bottom of the lowermost section by ties f. The struts on the same horizontal plane may be connected together by ties h<1>. The outer end of each strut is also connected with the upper part of the section next above by a tie g<2>. With this arrangement, when the mast is fully extended, the ties and struts form trusses which strengthen the structure, and any section of the mast may be lowered without interfering with the rigidity of the part below it. The particular construction of each strut is shown in Figs. 2 and 4. For taking up slack in the ties f<2>, g<2> when the structure is collapsed, each tie is connected to the strut and also by hooks i and cords I to extensible cords or springs X which pass through the tubular bars t of the struts, over pulleys p and are secured with. in tube t<0> arranged parallel with the tubes t, so that when the structure is collapsed, the ties are drawn within the tubes t. The guys G', G<2>, G<3> by which the structure is maintained in a vertical position are so selected that the outer ones G<3> passing to the highest points of the structure axe less yielding than the guys G<2>, and these less yielding than the guys G<1>. The bottom section is mounted upon a universal joint U of any suitable type. The structure may be extended before it is erected or subsequently by means usual in structures of this kind.
