Abstract
1,043,886. Discharge tubes; electric coils. PHILIPS ELECTRONICS & PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRIES CORPORATION. July 5, 1963 [July 5, 1962], No. 26758/63. Headings H1D and H1P. An electromagnet coil, e.g. for use in an electron microscope or a travelling wave tube is built up from a stack of layers, each layer comprising a conductive sheet, e.g. copper 2 mil. thick, having several radial slots, one of which extends to a central aperture; current flows round each layer from an electrode adjacent -one edge of the extended slot to an electrode adjacent the other side of the slot, one electrode of each layer being connected to an adjacent layer, but the layers being otherwise insulated, e.g. by a 10 mil. layer of silicon dioxide and the layers staggered so as not to short out the path round each layer. The segments of each layer serve as cooling fins. The electrodes may be solder spots, and the device may be assembled by stacking the layers, and then heating to fuse the solder.
