Abstract
1,043,792. Clarifying tea brews. SALADA FOODS Ltd. Feb. 15, 1965 [Jan. 2, 1965], No. 6455/65. Heading A2B. A tea brew prepared for steeping tea is cooled to 60‹F. or below, 0.005 to 1.0% of a water soluble polyvinylpyrrolidone and a filter aid, e.g. diatomaceous earth are added and the brew is filtered through a precoated filter in order to remove the astringent polyphenol-caffeine complexes. The thus clarified tea brew may be concentrated to a liquid concentrate or concentrated and dried to an "instant tea" powder. Tea blends used in the examples are black orange pekoe and Ceylon teas.
