Abstract
Methyl chloroform is stabilized by adding a three-component mixture of (a) a 1,3-dioxolane, (b) a nitroalkane, and (c) an organic epoxide. Typical examples of these materials are:-(a) 2 - ethyl - 1,3 -dioxalane, 2 - chloro - 4 - methyl - 1,3 - dioxolane and 2 - nitromethyl - 1,3-dioxolane; (b) nitromethane, b -nitropropane and 2-chloronitro-ethane; and (c) butylene oxide, epichlorohydrin, cyclohexene oxide, styrene oxide and cyclopentadiene diepoxide; others of each class also being specified. A wide variety of optional additives may also be present, and these are extensively exemplified within the following general classes:-mono- and diketones, mono- and poly-alcohols, nitriles, alkyl nitrates, dialkoxyalkanes, cyclic ethers, and aromatic hydrocarbons, which may be substituted, e.g. by F or Cl.
